Dixe Deer Classis 2024

Dixe Deer Classis 2024

For most of us, hunting season is in the rearview. We recently finished waterfowl season at the end of January, and the next few months can become a lull period until spring rolls around when the striper start to run in the Roanoke River and we take to the field to chase gobbling Tom’s.

Legacy Farms and Ranches of North Carolina would like to tell you about a special event that the Wake County Wildlife Club hosts every first weekend in March. The Dixie Deer Classic is an annual event held in Raleigh, North Carolina, dedicated to hunting, outdoor sports, and wildlife conservation.

This will mark the 43rd year the club has promoted this wonderful event. Sportsmen and women from all over the state of North Carolina and surrounding southern states will flock to the North Carolina State Fairgrounds for the 3-day event. Throughout its rich history and tradition the show has inspired other outdoor shows through the southeastern United States.

The Dixie Deer Classic is a family-focused outdoor show. It features more than 300 exhibitors selling hunting gear, equipment, and hunting trip excursions all over the world. The show also hosts hunting seminars from leading men and women in the outdoor industry. There are demonstrations on wildlife and natural resource conservation while educating the next generation of sportsmen.

One unique feature of the show is the Whitetail Trophy Showcase. Deer hunters across North Carolina can bring their harvest from the previous year to be officially scored. They will be scored on the Boone & Crocket and Pope & Young fair chase guidelines scale. All deer entered must be scored by 5 pm on Saturday and awards will be given to winners on Sunday. Even if you don’t have a buck to enter, it's an amazing sight to see all the deer our state has produced from the past season.

The weekend is about family where there is something for everyone. There is a BB gun shoot, a fishing pond and a scavenger hunt for kids. You can learn how to make your own turkey call. While at the event it is a must to stop by and see the Carolina Dock Dogs perform. Another showcase event is the venison chili cook-off.

This year’s celebrity guests are Melissa Bachman, Kip Campbell, and Ralph and Vicki Cianciarulo!
