Dixie Deer Classic 2016: What you need to know

It’s getting a little cooler outside.  Leaves on the Dogwood trees have begun to turn crimson.  A few poplar trees have shed some golden leaves too.  Ah, golden…the color of deer corn.

And so the daydreaming for many white tail hunters in North Carolina begins.  Work productivity is completely out the window for many.  Thoughts turn to the Wake County Wildlife Club’s annual event and expo called the Dixie Deer Classic!

One item you can help your loved one check off their list is putting the annual Dixie Deer Classic on their calendars.  Mark your little black date books now for Friday, March 4 through Sunday, March 6, 2016.  In its 36th year, the Dixie Deer Classic will again be held at the NC State Fairgrounds.  In case you need to remap that after you’ve long forgotten the NC State Fair in October, that’s 1025 Blue Ridge Road, Raleigh, NC 27607.

The Wake County Wildlife Club will host its annual Dixie Deer Classic on March 4th through March 6th in 2016. This nationally recognized event is the Premier Trophy Whitetail Deer show in the entire country. Since 1981, this grand event has provided a forum for hunters to meet each other. Over the years, it has evolved into a vast display of the latest hunting equipment, taxidermy services and archery supplies. If you love whitetail deer hunting, then you will enjoy this event.

About the Wake County Wildlife Club

The Wake County Wildlife Club was established in 1966. The WCWC is a leader in providing hunter education in North Carolina. It is affiliated with the National Rifle Association. The WCWC instructors have help thousands of students to obtain hunter education certificates and have also provided instructor’s certifications. The WCWC also provides scholarships, camps for young people and support for wildlife conservation.

Schedule of Events for the Dixie Deer Classic

The Dixie Deer Classic 2016 will be held at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds in the Jim Graham Building, J.S. Dorton Arena, The Exposition Center, and Kerr Scott Building. This family-oriented event is available for youth and adults alike. There will be fun events, such as the Youth Scavenger Hunt and the NC State Turkey Calling Contest. There are also special programs for young and beginning hunters. For women that are interested in learning more about the outdoors and hunting, the “Becoming an Outdoor Woman Seminar” will also be held.

Deer head trophies are also scored at this event and will be assessed for the North Carolina Record that is maintained by the Wake County Wildlife Club. Official Boone & Crockett and Pople & Young scorers will be available. The complete schedule of events for this year will be available soon on the event website.

The Dixie Deer Classic has also brought in speakers from around the country. In the past, the event has hosted well-known names, including Fred Bear, Chuck Adams, John Wooters, Dick Idol, Myles Keller, Roger Raglan, Brenda Valentine, Ted Nugent and others. Each year the stage presentation changes and the speakers for 2016 will be announced in the upcoming months.
