The timber industry in North Carolina provides a multi-billion dollar impact to the state’s economy, and 85% of all timber lands are privately held. Bioenergy: Creative Use of Timber Property, Wood Pellets as Bioenergy
There is an interesting upturn in the use of timber byproducts: wood pellets as an alternative fuel, or biomass. Regarding conservation easements on parts of properties where forestry isn’t feasible, North Carolina offers a tax credit of 25 percent of the fair market value of the donated property interest, up to $250,000 for individuals and $500,000 for corporations.
